WESTFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Mackenzie Bradley (Sherwood, Ore./Sherwood) placed first in three events to lead Smith College to a 160-125 victory over the Westfield State University women's swimming and diving team on Saturday, Nov. 20.
Smith improves to 2-1 while Westfield drops to 1-2. It was the second consecutive victory for the Pioneers, who beat Elms 141-121 on Tuesday.
The versatile Bradley breezed to victories in the 1,000 (11:25.95) and 500 freestyle (5:31.97) and also won the 200 butterfly in 2:28.02.
Double winners for the Pioneers were Lenora Walter (Santa Ynez, Calif./Santa Ynez Valley) (100 and 200 backstrokes) and Ariel Orr (Hamden, Conn./Harare International School) (100 and 200 breaststrokes). Both also swam on the winning 200 medley relay joined by Lily Seidman (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) and Robin Currens (Frederick, Md./Gov. Johnson). The foursome finished in 2:01.37, six seconds ahead of the second place unit.
Siedman also won the 100 fly with a time of 1:05.04, winning the event for the first time this season, and Emma Reim (Ledyard, Conn./Ledyard) notched a win in the 200 yard freestyle with a 2:05.38 time, and pushed Bradley all the way in the 500 yard freestyle, finishing second with a 5:35.16 time.
The Owls had a pair of double winners. Junior standout Kim Schmidt (Longmeadow) again finished first in the one and three-meter diving and sophomore Jenna Tasse took top honors in the 50 and 100 freestyles.
