September 17, 2010

Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--Shara Robertson notched a hat trick and set up another goal as Mt. Holyoke College topped Smith College 4-0 in the New England Men's and Women's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener for both teams on Friday afternoon.

The Lyons (3-1, 1-0 NEWMAC) got on the board nine minutes into the game when Robertson was first to the ball in a scrum in front of the net to tap home.

Robertson doubled the lead seven minutes into the second half, putting home a pass from Taylor Hedges.  Robertson added her third in the 62 second minute, and Angelica Pascual rounded out the scoring two minutes from time.

Sora Harris-Vincent made eight saves in net for Smith (2-3, 0-1 NEWMAC).

"It's not the result we're looking for, but we were extremely excited to get our first game at home down," said Smith head coach Jaime Ginsberg.  "We've been on the road since the season began, so we were happy to get a game on our turf."

The game marked the opening of the Smith College Turf Field.  750 fans marked the opening of the new facility.

Smith will take on Westfield State in non-conference play on Wednesday, September 22 at 4:30 p.m.  Mt. Holyoke will take on Western New England College on September 21.
