NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College field hockey team (1-5, 0-1 NEWMAC) concludes their string of five games away from home with a trip to Babson College (4-3, 1-0 NEWMAC). Babson is the defending NEWAMAC tournament champions and advanced to the secound round of the NCAA tournament in 2010.
Last Meeting: Babson salted away a 3-1 win with two second half goals on September 25, 2010.
Dari Goulden (Rutledge, Pa./Strath Haven) registered the only goal of the game for Smith.
Last Smith Win: All the scoring was done in the first half, with the Pioneers sandwiching two goals around one from Babson for a 2-1 win. All three goals came in a seven minute span - Smith scoring at 27:19 and 34:04, while Babson scored at the 30:41 mark.
Smith Overview: Still missing four players with injuries, Smith put in their most positive performance of the season thus far in a 3-1 loss to Westfield State.
Savannah Lawson (Oak Bluffs, Mass./Martha's Vineyard) made 23 saves - the second straight game she has crossed the 20 save mark, and kept the Owls at bay for most of the night.
Babson Overview: It's been an up and down season for Babson thus far - nearly every win has been followed by a loss, including a 6-3 win over Wellesley that was followed up by a 4-3 loss to Bridgewater State. In tha game, the Beavers held a 3-1 lead before giving up three goals in the final 25 minutes, including the game winning with 53 seconds to go.
Smith Player to Watch: Alexa DeJesus (Somerset, Mass./Somerset) - while the Pioneers have been racked with injuries in the early part of the season, DeJesus has remained their most dangerous attacking player, netting their lone goal against Westfield State on Tuesday night.
Babson Player to Watch: Morgan Lockwood - only a sophomore, Lockwood already has 10 goals in seven games this year, but spreads the wealth too - she's set up six goals for her teammates.
