Game Preview: Field Hockey vs. Simmons

September 28, 2011

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College field hockey team (1-6) returns home for the first time in three weeks to host Simmons College (5-5) on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.  The Pioneers will be looking to snap a four game losing streak.

Last Meeting: This is the first meeting between the teams.

Smith Overview: As noted, the Pioneers will be playing at home for the first time since September 7.  With a roster that's nearly at 100%, the Pioneers will be looking to some of the returners to boost their offensive production - Smith has only scored one goal in their last four games.

Simmons Overview: The Sharks, from the North Athletic Conference, boast a record of 5-5.  Three of their five losses have come by one goal, and they've scored at least four goals in a game four times.  Still, the Sharks will be looking to snap a two game losing streak of their own.

Smith Player to Watch: Grace Maliska (Winchendon, Mass./Murdock).  One of the players returning from injury, Maliska adds much needed depth to the front line, and had scored two goals in two games before her injury.

Simmons Player to Watch: Katelyn Tighe leads the team with eight goals and six assists, and three other players have five goals apiece for the Sharks.
