NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--
Alexandra Page (Brookline, Mass./Brookline) was a part of three wins while
Lauren Kauffman (Scottsdale, Ariz./Phoenix Country Day) and
Karen Fryefield (Eugene, Ore./Eugene) each won two events as the Smith College swimming and diving team cruised past Husson University 175-79 on Saturday afternoon at Dalton Pool. The Pionners improved their dual meet record to 3-2.
Page got the meet off to a flying start for Smith, swimming the opening leg of the 200 medley relay in 31.24. She was joined by
Jenny Prince (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley),
Rebecca Chazin (Denver, Colo./George Washington), and
Carly Mailly (W. Hartford, Conn./Hall) as winners in 2:12.33. The foursome of
Alyssa Pascuzzo (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame Prep),
Emily Lane (Centennial, Colo./Kent Denver School),
Michelle Cortrite (Santa Monica, Calif./Crossroads) and
Olivia Bannon (Amherst, Mass./Amherst) were right behind, touching the wall in 2:13.60.
Page also won the 50 yard breaststroke - swimming the event for the first time this season, the senior won in 37.77 seconds for a .11 margin over Husson's Megan Call. Page also set a new season best in the 100 yard freestyle, with a time of 1:01.69.
Kauffman won the 500 yard yard freestyle, with a time of 6:05.03, and picked up a victory in the 50 yard backstroke with a time of 34.02. Fryefield won the 1-meter dive for optional dives with a score of 190.00, and the 1-meter with voluntary dives with a score of 162.50.
Alya Staelin-Lefsky led Smith to a sweep of the top three places in the 1000 yard freestyle. Staelin-Lefsky bettered her season best by six seconds with a time of 13:32.46, followed by Katie Paulson Smith in 14:32.38 and
Gillian Anderson (Holden, Maine/John Bapst) in 15:16.76.
Robin Currens (Frederick, Md./Gov. Johnson) won the 200 yard freestyle in 2:13.37, followed by
Victoria Wu (Avon, Conn./Avon) (2:17.57) and
Olivia Bannon (Amherst, Mass./Amherst) (2:21.65). It was a new season best time for Wu, whose previous best was 2:22.51. Bannon also won the 50 yard butterfly in 31.78 seconds.
Mackenzie Bradley (Sherwood, Ore./Sherwood) won the 100 yard fly with a new season best of 1:05.02, and
Jenny Prince (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) won the 100 backstroke in 1:14.30, also a new season best. Pascuzzo won the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:18.06, while Paige Christ captured the 200 yard IM in 2:28.53.
Husson was led by a win in the 200 yard freestyle relay by Casey Pray, Hali Fleishman, Erin Benner, and Sarah Klopp in 1:54.94, while Fleishman won the 50 yard freestyle in 28.78.
