Game Preview: Field Hockey vs. Babson

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--Coming off their first victory over Wheaton since 1999, the Smith College field hockey team (6-6, 1-3 NEWMAC) can end a similar skid with a home win against Babson College (9-3, 4-0 NEWMAC) on Saturday afternoon.  Babson has won the last five and 11 of 12 in the series.

Last Meeting: Morgan Lockwood netted a hat-trick as Babson topped Smith, 5-0, on September 24, 2011.  It was the last of a four game losing skid for Smith, who would defeat Simmons in their next contest.

Last Smith Win: All the scoring was done in the first half, with the Pioneers sandwiching two goals around one from Babson for a 2-1 win on October 21, 2006.  All three goals came in a seven minute span - Smith scoring at 27:19 and 34:04, while Babson scored at the 30:41 mark.

Smith Overview: The Pioneers had their two win streak ended with a 6-3 defeat to Western New England on Thursday night.  Allie Stein (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) scored twice, reaching the 20 goal plateau for the season.  Stein is closing in on Smith's single season records for points and assists.

Babson Overview: The league leading Beavers had a six game winning streak snapped with a 5-4 defeat to Union (N.Y.) on October 7.  Babson led 4-2 with nine minutes remaining, but surrendered three unanswered goals.  Potent offensively, Babson has scored at least four goals in seven different contests this year.

Smith Player to Watch: Marissa Vara (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) has scored twice in her last three games, showcasing Smith's foward depth.

Babson Player to Watch: Lockwood has a team best 15 goals and nine assists, snatching three game winners on the year.
