Game Preview: Field Hockey vs. Daniel Webster

October 03, 2012

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College field hockey team (4-5) will welcome back a former player when they host Daniel Webster College (0-6) on Wednesday afternoon.  The Eagles are coached by former Pioneer Phoebe Hopkins (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Select), who graduated in 2012 as Smith's fifth all-time leading scorer with 73 points.

Last Meeting:  This is the first meeting between the schools.

Smith Overview: Smith has alternated wins and losses in their last six games, the last of which being a 6-1 loss to Wellesley College last Saturday.  A win today would be Smith's fifth of the year, the highest total since winning seven in 2008.

Daniel Webster Overview: It's been a tough start to the season for the Eagles, who have scored just three goals in six games.  Today marks the fifth road game of the season for Daniel Webster.

Smith Player to Watch: Jenny Estes (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) has scored in her last two contests, and has six points in her last three games.

Daniel Webster Player to Watch: Samantha Crooker has scored all three goals that Daniel Webster has this year.

Did you know? Speaking of records, Allie Stein (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer), who ranks second in all of NCAA Division III in scoring this season, needs five points to become Smith's second all-time leading scorer.  With career totals of 41 goals and 21 assists, Stein has 103 points, and would surpass Jessica Jones '94.  Paola Prins '86 is Smith's all-time leading scorer, with 187 points.
