Game Preview: Field Hockey vs. Wheaton

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College field hockey team (5-5, 0-3 NEWMAC) will look to break into the league win column for the first time when they travel to Wheaton College (2-8, 0-4 NEWMAC) on Saturday afternoon.

Last Meeting: Wheaton broke open a tie game with two goals four minutes apart for a 4-2 win over Smith on October 22, 2011.  Savannah Lawson (Oak Bluffs, Mass./Martha's Vineyard) made 13 saves for Smith, while Allie Stein (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) and Phoebe Hopkins (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Select) were on the scoresheet for the Pioneers.

Last Smith Win: The last time Smith beat Wheaton was a 1-0 win on October 16, 1999.

Smith Overview: The Pioneers nabbed their fifth win of the season with a 7-0 win over Daniel Webster on Wednesday.  Allie Stein (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) became Smith's second all-time leading scorer with two goals and four assists, while Emma Camilleri (Florence, Mass./Wilbraham & Monson), Rebecca Meagher (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough), and Marissa Vara (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) all scored their first collegiate goals.

Wheaton Overview: The Lyons have lost five in a row, having been outscored 26-3 during that span.  Wheaton has conceded five or more goals in five separate contests this year.

Smith Player to Watch: Alexa DeJesus (Somerset, Mass./Somerset) has scored in four the last five games, raising her total to seven this year, or as many in her first two years combined.

Wheaton Player to Watch: Junior Jenna Rocha has tallied four goals and is the team's leading scorer.

Did you know?  The Smith offense has become very diversified this year, with 13 different players recording a goal.
