CHICOPEE, Mass.--The Smith College swimming & diving team won nine events en route to a 133-101 win over host Elms College in a dual meet on Tuesday night. Smith claimed the top three places in seven separate events.
Mackenzie Bradley (Sherwood, Ore./Sherwood) picked up wins in the 400 meter freestyle, as well as the 200 IM. The 400 free saw Smith claim the top three places, with Bradley in first in 4:59.25, ahead of
Emily Lane (Centennial, Colo./Kent Denver School), who finished in 5:13.75, and
Claire Dudek (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) in 5:26.57. It was more of the same in the 200 iM, as Smith also took the first five places, led by Bradley in 2:43.94. Right behind her was
Laura Nunnelly (Amherst, Mass./Amherst), with a time of 2:49.14, and
Christine Hart (Rexford, N.Y./Niskayuna) in 2:51.75.
Hannah Francis (Chicago, Ill./Walter Payton Prep) (2:53.02) and
Devi Dearmon-Moore (Tucson, Ariz./Catalina Foothills) (2:56.25) rounded out the top finishers for Smith.
Alyssa Pascuzzo (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame Prep) also captured a win in the 200 free, touching the wall in 2:21.80, just in front of Bradley in second with a time of 2:23.86. Pascuzzo also led a sweep of the 100 fly, in 1:12.28, in front of teammates Kelsey Swesen (1:20.85) and
Sabine Milger (Wilhelmshaven, Germany/Gymnasium am Muehlenweg) (1:22.52).
Pascuzzo also teamed with
Emily Clark (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee),
Ariel Orr (Hamden, Conn./Harare International School), and
Hayley Bezubka (N. Kingstown, R.I./N. Kingstown) for a win in the 200 medley relay, with a one second win in 2:15.12. Clark led a trio of Pioneers to the top three places in the 100 backstroke, winning in 1:15.99, with
Robin Currens (Frederick, Md./Gov. Johnson) in second in 1:17.99 and Nunnelly in third in 1:18.35.
Orr and
Olivia Bannon (Amherst, Mass./Amherst) finished less than a second apart in the 100 breastroke, with Orr edging to victory in 1:22.54, ahead of Bannon in 1:22.81, and
Leah VanHoeve (Annville, Ky./Homeschool) next in 1:28.49. Bannon claimed victory in the 200 breaststroke, with a time of 2:59.10, ahead of teammates Hart, in 3:02.90 and Orr, who grabbed third in 3:05.36.
Smith's also took the top three sports in the 400 freestyle relay, led by the foursome of
Sarah Tucker (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic),
Sophie Mettler-Grove (Syracuse, N.Y./Manlius Pebble Hill),
Rachael Gainer (Atlanta, Ga./Paidea School), and
Meredith Millman (Syosset, N.Y./Jerich) in 4:47.82, and Dudek, VanHoeve, Currens, and
Greta Stacy (Woodbury, Minn./Mounds Park Acad.) combining for a second place finish in 4:52.20. Bezubka and Milger, along with
Rachel Dean (Ramona, Calif./Ramona) and
Christina Goethel (Galt, Calif./Galt) nabbed third place in 4:55.90.
Paige Christie (N. Andover, Mass./Austin Prep) took home second place in the 200 backstroke, with a time of 2:42.57, while
Hannah Francis (Chicago, Ill./Walter Payton Prep) did the same in the 50 fly in 34.44.
Smith will be back in action on Saturday, traveling to Westfield State University for a 1 p.m. dual meet.
