WESTFIELD, Mass.--
Jenika Parson (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) hit NCAA qualifying scores on both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives as the Smith College swimming and diving team posted a 163-126 win over Westfield State University on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers improve to 2-1 in dual meets, while Westfield State falls to 0-3.
Parson won the 1-meter with a score of 277.00, winning the event by 71.20 points, while on the 3-meter board, Parson scored 269.85, for a 49 point win. If Parson should meet the scores one more time, she will move on the NCAA Regional Diving Qualification Meet on March 1-2, 2013 at Springfield College. It's the third straight year Parson has met the qualification scores.
Smith opened the meet with a 2.5 second win in the 200 yard medley relay.
Robin Currens (Frederick, Md./Gov. Johnson),
Ariel Orr (Hamden, Conn./Harare International School),
Hannah Francis (Chicago, Ill./Walter Payton Prep), and
Meredith Millman (Syosset, N.Y./Jerich) posted the win in 2:03.99, with Millman swimming the anchor leg in 27.67. The 'B' entry of
Emily Clark (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee),
Christine Hart (Rexford, N.Y./Niskayuna),
Sabine Milger (Wilhelmshaven, Germany/Gymnasium am Muehlenweg), and
Rachael Gainer (Atlanta, Ga./Paidea School) were not far behind, taking second place in 2:06.54.
Kelsey Swensen (Crofton, Md./Annapolis) and
Emily Lane (Centennial, Colo./Kent Denver School) went 1-2 in the 1,000 freestyle, with Swensen setting a new personal best with a time of 11:47.44, with Lane in second in 11:56.68.
Currens earned a solo victory in the 100 backstroke, edging out Westfield State's Amanda Labriola by less than a second, finishing in 1:06.89. In the 100 breaststroke, Smith took the top three places, led by
Olivia Bannon (Amherst, Mass./Amherst) in 1:13.10, followed by Orr in second place in 1:15.99 and Hart in 1:16.27.
Mackenzie Bradley (Sherwood, Ore./Sherwood) added a win of her own in the 200 fly, with a nearly 20 second victory in 2:18.92.
Alyssa Pascuzzo (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame Prep) registered a victory in the 50 free, with a time of 26.78, with Millman just behind in 27.97.
Clark picked up a victory in the 200 backstroke, winning by exactly three seconds in 2:21.93, and Hart and Leah Vanhoeve took first and second, respectively, in the 200 breaststroke. Hart finished in 2:43.90, and Vanhoeve touched the wall in 2:52.88.
Bradley's second win of the day came in 500 free, with a time of 5:31.67, with Swensen taking second place in 5:41.90. Pascuzzo also took home a second win with a triumph in the 100 fly, finishing in 1:02.84, in front of teammate
Paige Christie (N. Andover, Mass./Austin Prep), who came in second in 1:07.10.
Pascuzzo made it a trifecta of wins with a 2:19.04 time in the 200 IM, while the foursome of Bradley, Swensen,
Sarah Tucker (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic), and
Emma Reim (Ledyard, Conn./Ledyard) took second in the 400 free relay in 4:10.32.
Smith will take part in one more meet before the end of the semester, participating in the Mount Holyoke Invitational on December 1.
