Game Preview: Swimming and Diving vs. Mount Holyoke

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The final regular season meet of the season gets underway for the Smith College Swimming and Diving team at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.  It will be the final meet in Dalton Pool for Smith's six seniors - Rebecca Chazin (Denver, Colo./George Washington), Karen Fryefield (Eugene, Ore./Eugene), Carly Mailly (W. Hartford, Conn./Hall), Alexandra Page (Brookline, Mass./Brookline), Jenny Prince (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley), and Rebecca Rosen (Harrington Park, N.J./Northern Valley Regional).

Last Meeting: Mackenzie Bradley (Sherwood, Ore./Sherwood) won three events, setting season bests in all, but the Smith College swimming and diving team fell to Mt. Holyoke College 156-144 on Saturday in their penultimate meet of the season.  Smith also won the 1-meter dive, taking the top four places, and four of the top flve spots in the three meter dive. 

Smith Overview: Smith won 14 events in a 175-79 win over Husson College last weekend.  Page got the meet off to a flying start for Smith, swimming the opening leg of the 200 medley relay in 31.24.  She was joined by Jenny Prince, Rebecca Chazin, and Carly Mailly as winners in 2:12.33.  The foursome of Alyssa Pascuzzo, Emily Lane, Michelle Cortrite and Olivia Bannon were right behind, touching the wall in 2:13.60.  Page also won the 50 yard breaststroke - swimming the event for the first time this season, the senior won in 37.77 seconds for a .11 margin over Husson's Megan Call.  Page also set a new season best in the 100 yard freestyle, with a time of 1:01.69.  Kauffman won the 500 yard yard freestyle, with a time of 6:05.03, and picked up a victory in the 50 yard backstroke with a time of 34.02.  Fryefield won the 1-meter dive for optional dives with a score of 190.00, and the 1-meter with voluntary dives with a score of 162.50.

Mount Holyoke Overview:  The Lyons finished out their home campaign against Wellesley College in a dual meet last Saturday.  Lydia Bowers was a part of four second place finishes for Mount Holyoke, including the 800 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay, as well as the 50 and 100 freestyles. 

Did you know? This is also the final regular season meet for Mount Holyoke as well - for both teams, the NEWMAC Championships is scheduled for February 17-19 at MIT.
