Smith Falls To Mount Holyoke on Senior Day

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--Jenika Parson (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) won both diving events, and Mackenzie Bradley (Sherwood, Ore./Sherwood) won the 1,000 free, the 100 fly, and the 200 fly as the Smith College swimming and diving team fell to Mount Holyoke College 163-135 on Senior Day on Saturday.

Before the meet, the six Smith seniors - Rebecca Chazin (Denver, Colo./George Washington), Karen Fryefield (Eugene, Ore./Eugene), Carly Mailly (W. Hartford, Conn./Hall), Alexandra Page (Brookline, Mass./Brookline), Jenny Prince (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley), and Rebecca Rosen (Harrington Park, N.J./Northern Valley Regional) - were honored for their contributions to the program for the past four years. 

Parson dominated both boards, scoring 255.30 on the 1-meter and 231.40 on the 3-meter to win by 71 and 45.75 points, respectively.  Karen Fryfield also took second place in both, scoring 184.30 on the 1-meter and 185.65 on the 3-meter.

Bradley bettered her season best in the 1,000 free by four seconds, winning in 10:58.47 for a 38 second victory.  Her time of 1:03.28 won the 100 fly by .28 seconds, and beat her previous best this year by nearly two seconds.  She also won the 200 yeard fly in 2:17.83, with nearly a 20 second margin of victory and a new season best time.

Page was joined by Ariel Orr (Hamden, Conn./Harare International School), Paige Christie (N. Andover, Mass./Austin Prep), and Lauren Kauffman (Scottsdale, Ariz./Phoenix Country Day) for a second place finish in the 200 yard medley relay in 2:00.52, while adding a second place time in the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke with a new season bests of 1:04.87, and 2:20.16, respectively.

Orr and Victoria Wu (Avon, Conn./Avon) claimed second and third in the 100 yard breaststroke, separated by just a fraction of a second.  Orr touched the wall in 1:14.69, with Wu just behind in a season best 1:14.76.  Kauffman claimed second place in the 50 yard freestyle in 26.99, as well as second in the 100 freestyle in 58.94.  Wu also came in second in the 200 breaststroke, beating her previous season best by nearly six seconds in 2:39.83.

Alyssa Pascuzzo (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame Prep) reeled in second place finishes in the 200 yard IM and the 100 fly, finishing in 2:21.22 and 1:03.56, respectively.

The meet concluded Smith's regular season schedule - the Pioneers will next compete in the NEWMAC championships, starting on February 17 at MIT.
