Game Preview: Field Hockey vs. Simmons

September 26, 2012

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College field hockey team (3-4) will play four of their next five games on the road, beginning with a trip to Simmons College (2-7) for a 7 p.m. game on Wednesday night.

Last Meeting:  Smith got on the board within four minutes through Grace Maliska (Winchendon, Mass./Murdock) en route to a 4-0 win on September 28, 2011.  Smith added goals from Allie Stein (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer), Phoebe Hopkins (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Select), and Sophie Demuynck (Mt. Holly, N.J./Moorestown Friends) as the Pioneers ended a four game losing streak.

Smith Overview: Smith suffered a tough 7-3 loss to Springfield College last Saturday, despite pulling within a goal twice.  The Pride outscored Smith 4-1 in the final 20 minutes to set the final margin, overcoming 15 saves from Savannah Lawson (Oak Bluffs, Mass./Martha's Vineyard).

Simmons Overview: Members of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, Simmons won their first league game of the season with a 1-0 victory over Thomas College.  Four of the Sharks' seven losses have come by one goal, including a pair of overtime defeats to Western New England and Wheaton.

Smith Player to Watch: Grace Maliska (Winchendon, Mass./Murdock) made her season debut against Springfield after missing the first portion of the season through injury.  Though only appearing in five games last year, she scored three times, giving Smith another weapon offensively.

Simmons Player to Watch: Monica Doucette has a team high three goals and three assists.
