Game Preview: Field Hockey vs. Western New England

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College field hockey team will look to end a two game losing streak when the Pioneers (8-2) welcome Western New England University (2-9) on Thursday afternoon.


Last Meeting: Western New England led 4-0 at halftime and came away with a 6-3 win over Smith on October 11, 2012.

The Series:  Smith leads, 8-5.  The Pioneers had won five straight before last year's defeat, and have won three of the four games that have gone to overtime since the series began in 2001.

Fast Facts: Western New England is coming off a 7-1 loss to Salve Regina...the Golden Bears have allowed six goals in seven of their 11 games...Jessica Scannapieco leads the Golden Bears with five goals and two assists...Smith is ending a four game home set...the Pioneers will play five of their final seven games away from home...today's game is a Think Pink game for breast cancer awareness...nine players have started all 10 games thus far for the Pioneers...

Next Up:  It's back to conference play for both teams.  Smith will head to Babson College for a 1:30 pm NEWMAC game on Saturday, while Western New England hosts Endicott in a Commonwealth Coast Conference game on the same day.
