Game Preview: Field Hockey vs. Westfield State

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College field hockey team will look to maintain their unbeaten record in non-conference play when the Pioneers (9-3) travel to Westfield State University (5-6) on Tuesday evening.


Last Meeting:  Allie Stein (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) scored the game winner with 10 seconds remaining in the first overtime to lift Smith to a 2-1 win on September 18, 2012.

The Series:  Westfield State leads, 11-9.  The road team has not won in this matchup since 2008.

Fast Facts:  Westfield State has lost four of five after a 4-2 start...freshman Holly Brouillette leads the Owls with 22 points...Westfield State senior defender Courtney Araujo and Smith senior forward Alexa DeJesus (Somerset, Mass./Somerset) both attended Somerset High School...DeJesus has scored in each of Smith's last three contests...two more goals and she will move into the top 10 on Smith's career scoring list...Smith's last two wins in this fixture were overtime victories...Smith will play four of their final six games on the road...

Next Up: Smith hosts MIT in a NEWMAC matchup on October 19 at noon.  Westfield State hosts Worcester State in a Little East Conference tilt at October 18 at 7 p.m.
