Pioneers Sink Westfield State In Dual Meet, 172-123

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--Alyssa Pascuzzo (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame Prep) took part in four wins as the Smith College swimming and diving team beat Westfield State University 172-123 in a dual meet in Dalton Pool on Saturday.  The Pioneers are now 4-2, the most dual meet wins in a season since 2009-10.

Pascuzzo swam the third leg of the 200 medley relay team, joining forces with Erika Schroeder (Houston, Texas/Memorial), Olivia Bannon (Amherst, Mass./Amherst), and Grace Lee (Beaverton, Ore./Aloha) in a winning time of 1:57.75.   The junior was also won the 100 freestyle in a photo finish, touching the wall in 57.74, just .07 ahead of Schroder.  Pascuzzo added to her total with a victory in the 100 fly, with a time of 1:03.36, and had the fastest time in the 200 individual medley, clocking in at 2:24.54.

Paige Christie (N. Andover, Mass./Austin Prep) picked up a pair of victories in the 200 backstroke and 200 fly, respectively.  Christie posted a time of 2:22.97 in the former, nearly six seconds ahead of Westfield's Kerry Sullivan, and an even more dominating win in the butterfly, in 2:26.70, almost seven seconds ahead of the Owls' Holly Arel.  

Bannon added a win over her own in the 100 breaststroke, with a time of 1:10.13, and also took top spot in the 200 breaststroke in 2:33.05.  Emily Lane (Centennial, Colo./Kent Denver School) also won two events, taking the 500 yard freestyle in 5:54.38, and the 1,000 freestyle in 11:52.67. 

Smith took the top two places in the 100 backstroke, with a win coming from Erika Schroder in 1:04.09, and Laura Nunnelly (Amherst, Mass./Amherst) coming in second in 1:06.34.  Hayley Bezubka (N. Kingstown, R.I./N. Kingstown) won the 200 freestyle in 2:10.38, a full seven seconds ahead of Westfield's Anna Boucher.

Cecelia Arrison (Weathersfield, Vt./Stevens (N.H.)) won the three meter dive with a score of 257.55, and was second on the one meter board with a score of 246.10.

Smith will race once more before the close of the semester, at the WPI Invitational on December 7-8.
