NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--Conference play begins for the Smith College field hockey team (5-0, 0-0 NEWMAC) when the Pioneers host Worcester Polytechnic Institute (3-2, 0-0 NEWMAC) on Saturday afternoon. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
Last Meeting: Alexa DeJesus (Somerset, Mass./Somerset) scored twice, including the game winner with 40 secodns remaining as Smith beat WPI 2-1, on October 16, 2012.
The Series: WPI leads 21-15, but Smith has won nine of 13 meetings since 2000.
Fast Facts: WPI fell to cross-town foe Worcester State 4-2 on Tuesday, September 17...The Engineers first two games of the season were OT contests...this is the third straight meeting between the two that takes place in Northampton...Smith beat Elms, 2-0, in their last time out...Smith has outscored opponents 35-3 so far, with three shutouts...the Pioneers had three shutouts in the last two seasons...Smith last won a conference home opener in 2007, when the Pioneers beat MIT 3-0.
