Game Preview: Field Hockey vs. Wheaton

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--After a week without games, the Smith College field hockey team (6-0, 1-0 NEWMAC) takes to the field when the Pioneers travel to Wheaton College (3-6, 0-1 NEWMAC) on Saturday afternoon.


Last Meeting: Smith beat Wheaton for the first time since 1999 with a 4-3 win on October 6, 2012.

The Series: Wheaton has won 24 of the 39 all-time meetings between these two institutions.

Fast Facts:  The Lyons have lost five straight, including four games where they allowed four goals or more...Wheaton has scored just three times in the last four games...This is the beginning of four straight home games for Wheaton...Smith is playing for the first time since a 4-2 win over WPI in their conference opener...Allie Stein (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) scored all four goals in the win, and is the nation's leading scorer in Division III, with 6.67 points per contest...The Smith offense is the most potent in the country, with 17.83 points per game....Smith has assists on 29 of their 39 goals.

Next Up: Smith begins a stretch of four straight home games by hosting Simmons College on October 1 at 4 p.m.  Wheaton will host Elms College in a non-conference matchup on September 29.
