Field Hockey Hosts Keene State

Pioneers Suffer 2-1 Setback

Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College field hockey team fell 2-1 to Keene State College Tuesday night. The loss drops the Pioneers to 4-13 while the win moves the Owls to 15-4 on the season.

The Pioneers struck first when junior Kat Estes (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) converted a penalty stroke attempt for her fourth goal of the season in the 28th minute.

Keene State got two second half goals from Mariah Barnett and Melissa Habelow. Barnett took a cross from Sami Smith and put home the shot for her seventh goal of the season. Off a Keene State penalty corner Habelow stepped up and slapped a shot past the Pioneers goalkeeper at the 62-minute mark.

Goalkeeper Nora Demick (Watertown, Mass/Beaver Country Day) made eight saves in the cage for Smith while Meaghan Dwyer notched four saves in goal for Keene State.

The Pioneers are back in action on Nov. 1, when they host Clark University at 3 p.m. Three seniors, Rebecca Meagher (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough), Kristen Estes (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) and Jenny Estes (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth), will all be honored prior to Saturday's contest as a part of Senior Day.
