NORTHAMPTON, Mass. –
Olivia Bannon (Amherst, Mass./Amherst) and
Cecelia Arrison (Weathersfield, Vt./Stevens (N.H.)) each won a pair of events as the Smith College swimming and diving team concluded its 2013-14 dual meet slate with a 166-133 setback to Mount Holyoke on Saturday afternoon.
Bannon had a pair of exciting finishes as she captured the 100-yard breaststroke by .04 seconds (1:11.05) and was .21 seconds quicker than her foe in the 200-yard breaststroke with a 2:33.13.
Arrison swept the diving events with scores of 255.70 on the 1-meter board and 280.95 on the 3-meter board.
Anna Partridge (Seattle, Wash./Mercer Island) finished second in both as she turned in scores of 227.25 and 256.15, respectively. Sophia Lader tallied 206.95 points to claim third on the 1-meter board.
Erica Schroeder took the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:04.56 as
Paige Christie (N. Andover, Mass./Austin Prep) took 2:20.56 to win the 200-yard backstroke.
Bannon teamed with Schroeder,
Cadence Miskimin (Guilford, Conn./Hopkins School) and
Alyssa Pascuzzo (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame Prep) to finish second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:59.73) while the 400-yard freestyle relay team comprised of Bannon, Christie,
Hayley Bezubka (N. Kingstown, R.I./N. Kingstown) and Schroeder came home second (3:56.94).
Other second place finishes included Christie in the 200-yard butterfly (2:29.35), Schroeder in the 100-yard freestyle (58.55) and
Claire Dudek (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) in the 500-yard freestyle (5:36.10).
Prior to the competition, seniors
Gillian Anderson (Holden, Maine/John Bapst), Bannon, Bezubka and
Kiara Gomez (Astoria, N.Y./HS For Health) were honored for their contributions to Smith College Athletics and the swimming and diving program.
The Pioneers return to action when the squad travels to WPI for the four-day NEWMAC Championships beginning on Thursday, February 20 at 5:30 p.m.
