Amanda Lavond (Campbell, Calif./Westmont) netted two goals and classmate
Cameo Tietje (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) made three saves in the Smith College field hockey team's 4-2 loss at Simmons College on Tuesday.
The Pioneers are now 1-7 on the year, while the Sharks improve to 6-4.
Simmons scored first, as Robin Powell took a short cross from Julie Saltamartini to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the contest. Smith answered less than a minute later, as Lavond stuffed home a shot in traffic for her first collegiate marker.
Lavond wasn't done, as she staked the Pioneers to a 2-1 lead at the 20 minute mark with her second goal of the match. The Sharks responded with a goal six minutes later, and the two sides went to halftime deadlocked at two.
Unfortunately,Simmons scored the final two goals of the match to seal the win.
The Pioneers will be back in action Saturday at 12 p.m. when they travel to Wellesley College.
