Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Down 2-0 to Connecticut College with under 15 minutes to play, Smith battled back to tie the score and force overtime, but the Camels scored just three minutes into OT to come away with a 3-2 win.
The Camels improve to 2-1, while the Pioneers fall to 1-2.
Following an exciting 70 minutes of regulation, the teams headed for overtime, but Connecticut quickly brought the contest to a conclusion, with Katlyn Paiva scoring on a breakaway goal to end the contest in favor of the visitors.
Connecticut finished with a 24-11 advantage in shots, including a 13-4 lead in the first half, while Smith was awarded 11 of the game's 19 penalty corners.
Junior 
Nora Demick (Watertown, Mass/Beaver Country Day) stood tall in goal for the Pioneers, finishing with a season-best 10 saves. Ryley van der Velde came up with a number of big stops for the Camels throughout the game, finishing with three saves of her own.
It took Connecticut close to six minutes to jump in front, receiving a goal from Cheyanne Asplundh to go on top 1-0.
Nine minutes later, the Camels struck again, with Berklee Vaillancourt finding the back of the cage to put the Pioneers in an early 2-0 hole.
With under 10 minutes to play in regulation, Smith cut the lead in half when junior 
Marissa Vara (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) tipped in a pass from junior 
Casey Rau (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) to make it 2-1.
The Pioneers continued to control the action for the remainder of the second half and with only 5:48 to play, first-year 
Julia Hamilton (Williamstown, Mass./Deerfield Academy) knocked in a goal to the match at two.
Soon after, the teams headed for overtime, where Paiva ended things with her goal.
Smith is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 14 when they host the Middlebury College Panthers. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
