Game Preview: Field Hockey vs. Western New England

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College field hockey team will look to win their second-consecutive game when the Pioneers (5-5) welcome Western New England University (5-5) on Thursday afternoon.

Last Meeting: Smith scored three first-half goals en route to a 4-0 win over the Golden Bears on October 9, 2014. The victory also gave head coach Jamie Ginsberg a win over her predecessor, Judy Strong, who coached at Smith from 1987-2006 and remains the program's all-time winningest coach with 171 wins. In the second half, first year Mariah Ollive (Milton, Vt./Milton) scored her first collegiate marker.

The Series:  Smith leads, 10-5.  The Pioneers have won two-straight including a 10-1 dominating performance during the 2013 season, and have won three of the four games that have gone to overtime since the series began in 2001.

Next Up:  It's back to conference play for both teams.  Smith will head to Babson College for a 12:00 pm NEWMAC game on Saturday, while Western New England travels to Gordon on Wednesday, October 14.
