KEENE, N.H. - The Keene State women's soccer program extended their unbeaten streak to 6-0-0 at home for the 2016 season, after a 3-1 non-conference victory over Smith on Thursday evening at Owl Athletic Complex.
The Owls improve to 9-5, while the Pioneers drop to 7-3-4.
Keene State came out firing in the first minutes of the half, as the Owls held posession and got off four shots throughout the first six minutes. The middle of the half found both teams playing aggressive defense before Keene State was awarded a penalty kick after Brittany Tollla was fouled in the box during the 27th minute. Katie Silegy stepped up and put the ball into the right side of the net to put the Owls up 1-0.
The Pioneers aimed to fire back quickly in the 28th minute, as
Jordan Isaacs (Weston, Conn./Weston) sent a through ball to
Emily Smith (Winchester, Mass./Winchester), as she went one-on-with Warhall, who ended the opportunity by making a diving save.
With less than thirty seconds remaining in the first half,
Innis Hitt (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) sent a cross into the box. The serve passed multiple Smith jerseys, but
Reilly Sullivan (Keene, N.H./Keene) was there to finish the play with seven seconds remaining, as the teams went into halftime tied at one goal apiece.
The Owls had a quality opportunity in the first two minutes as Morgan Kathan tucked a shot under the cross bar, but Biasin placed an outstretched hand to tip the ball over the net, forcing a corner kick that was eventually cleared.
