Meet Preview: Swimming and Diving at Elms

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - After a weekend off from competition, the Smith College swimming and diving team (1-3) gets back in the pool when they travel to Elms College (0-4) for a dual meet at 6:00 p.m.

Last Meeting: The Pioneers earned an impressive 142-98 win over Elms College on November 17, 2015. Competing in 15 events, Smith recorded 11 first place performances. 

Smith Overview: Sophomore Desi Stoyanova (Plovdiv, Bulgaria) earned three wins in a 170-130 dual meet loss to Springfield College a week ago, with victories in the 200 fly, 100 fly and as a member of the 200 relay team. Smith divers placed first and second on both boards, while senior Eliza Cummings (Denver, Colo./Denver Center for Int'l Studies) posted a first place finish in the 100 free and runner-up times in the 500 free and 1,000 free.

Elms Overview: The Blazers fell 166.5-88.5 to St. Joseph's of Maine this past Saturday. Junior Aislinn Carrier won the 100 meter freestyle (1:09.96), and took second in the 200 freestyle (2:37.91) and third in the 400 freestyle (5:47.96). Freshman Natalie Obando touched the wall first in the 50 meter butterfly (36.55), along with third-place finishes in the 50 meter backstroke (37.00) and the 100 meter backstroke (1:20.96).

Inside the Numbers: Head Coach Kim Bierwert, who is in his 40th season as head coach of the Pioneers, needs just one win for 200 in his career (199-160-3).
