Pioneers Finish 1-2 at WPI

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Smith College swimming and diving team competed in a series of dual meets at WPI Friday, going 1-2 on the evening. Smith defeated Babson College, 198-91 but fell to Brandeis, 154-135 , and the hosts from WPI, 172-117.

RESULTS

Diving Highlights
  • Junior Elly Stone (West borough, Mass./Westborough), who recorded an NCAA regional diving championship qualifying score on the 3-meter board, finished first in both diving events. She posted a total of 297.65 in the 3-meter competition and 285.70 on the 1-meter.
  • First year Abigail Hanna (Averill Park, N.Y.) delivered fourth place finishes on both the 1-meter (234.80) and 3-meter (260.85).

Swimming Highlights
  • Senior Eliza Cummings (Denver, Colo./Denver Center for Int'l Studies) posted a personal best time of 2:03.07 in the 200 free for first and followed that with a third place finish in the 500 free (5:32.08)
  • In the 100 fly first year Kate Niemiec (South Windsor, Conn. ) (1:06.52) and junior Abby Bergman (Culver City, Calif./Vistamar) (1:06.89) finished second and third, respectively.
  • Desi Stoyanova (Plovdiv, Bulgaria) had strong performances, as the sophomore placed third in both the 1000 free (11:32.55) and the 200 fly (2:20.08).
  • Senior Abby Onos (South Portland, Maine/South Portland) delivered top-five times in the 200 IM (2nd - 2:20.33),  100 back (4th - 1:05.53) and 100 free (5th - 57.01).
  • The squad of Cummings, Maddy Meadows-McDonnell (Indianapolis, Ind. /North Central), Stoyanova, and Onos clocked in at 1:47.83 in the 200 free relay for second place.
