NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Junior forward
Jordan Isaacs (Weston, Conn./Weston) scored 6:52 into overtime to give the Pioneers a 2-1 win in their home-opener Thursday afternoon against Simmons College.
With the victory, Smith improves to 2-0-1 while the Sharks drop to 0-2-1. The Pioneers are now 5-0-1 in home-openers since 2011.
Simmons broke open the scoring in the 22nd minute when Gabrielle Klane took a Kashka Gammon pass in a two-on-one situation against the Smith goaltender.
First-year
Krissy Williams (Stockbridge, Mass./Monument Mountain) evened the game at 1-1 after she collected a rebound from
Seri Park (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill).
Both teams had multiple opportunities to establish a lead but goalkeepers on both ends kept the score at a stalemate.
In the first overtime period, Isaacs took a feed from senior
Jackie Foody (Weston, Mass./Weston) to beat the Simmons keeper for the game-winner.
Shelby Hall (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) made the start and played the first half for Smith, making four saves while
Camryn Biasin (Lee, Mass./Berkshire) entered in the second and recorded five saves. Simmons netminder Casey Halle stopped a total of eight shots in the loss.
The Pioneers will head south to Pennsylvania for games at Bryn Mawr and Neumann University this weekend.
