LAST MEETING: First year Desi Stoyanova (Plovdiv, Bulgaria) earned the only first place finish of the day for the Smith College swimming and diving team in their 214-84 loss to Wellesley on January 8, 2016. Stoyanova clocked in a time of 11:13.06 in the 1000 free.

SCOUTING SMITH: Smith returns to the pool for the first time since their 4th place finish at the Hamilton Invitational on December 2-3. Stoyanova was the runner-up in her signature event, the 400 IM, with a time of 4:51.94. Junior Elly Stone (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) had Smith's top performance of the day with her first place score of 256.00 on the 1-meter and went on to place second in the 3-meter (267.00).

THANK YOU SENIORS: Prior to the meet, the Pioneers will honor their five seniors: Eliza Cummings (Denver, Colo./Denver Center for Int'l Studies), Samantha Font (Belleair, Fla. /Admiral Farragut Academy), Abby Onos (South Portland, Maine/South Portland), Michaela Stamm (Henderson, Nev.), and Carolyn Taylor (Dallas, Tex.), 

SCOUTING WELLESLEY: The Blue swimming and diving team celebrated their Senior Day with a pair of victories over NEWMAC opponents Babson and Coast Guard on January 5.  The Blue earned a 235-48 victory over the Beavers and a 154-144 win over the Bears. Wellesley is now 3-3 in dual meets this season. Junior diver Maura Sticco-Ivins, who was making her first appearance of the 2016-17 season, won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Sticco-Ivins was named the NEWMAC Diver of the Week after earning regional qualifying marks in both events, scoring 277.25 on the 1-meter and 314.30 on the 3-meter. Sophomore Cathy Chen won individual events in the 100 back and 50 free.
