Divers Post Top Finishes at WPI Quad Meet

WORCESTER, Mass. - The divers swept both events as the Smith College swimming and diving team finished 1-2 Friday evening at WPI. The Pioneers defeated Babson College (188-96), but fell to Brandeis (176-118) and WPI (168-121).

RESULTS

DIVING HIGHLIGHTS
  • Smith won both diving events with senior Elly Stone leading sophomores Abigail Hanna and Shoshana Werblow on the 1-meter with scores of 256.90, 250.65 and 224.75. 
  • Hanna was the top finisher on the 3-meter board with 282.70 points followed by Stone (268.50) and Werblow (255.50)

SWIMMING HIGHLIGHTS
  • Junior Desi Stoyanova (Plovdiv, Bulgaria/Plovdiv Language School) earned three top-five finishes on the evening. She won the 400 yard IM in 4:57.92, posted a second place finish in the 200 yard butterfly (2:20.49) and was fifth in the 1000 yard free (11:47.95).
  • Charlotte Crandall was impressive in her first meet for the Pioneers as the first-year was fourth in the 200 yard free (2:06.47) and 200 yard back (2:19.24), and touched the wall fifth in the 500 yard free (5:38.05).
  • The relay team of Maddy Meadows-McDonnell, Paula Torre-Nieto, Nell Tarno, and Jenny Huo took third in the 200 yard free relay in 1:48.06.
  • Other top finishes for the Pioneers were Abby Bergman (Culver City, Calif./Vistamar) (3rd - 200 yard fly) and Jenny Huo (2nd - 100 yard fly).
 
UP NEXT
The Pioneers travel to NEWMAC opponent Springfield College on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
