THE SERIES
Smith and MIT will meet for the 37th time on Saturday in a series that dates back to 1988. The Pioneers are 16-20 all-time against the Engineers but have lost the last three meetings. These two teams have played each other in the NEWMAC Semifinals in 2016.

LAST MEETING
Goals from Bailey Tregoning and Mia Reilley midway through the second half helped propel the nationally-ranked No. 19 MIT field hockey team to a 3-1 win over Smith College on September 29, 2018. Senior Alex Larosee (Warwick, R.I./The Wheeler School) scored the lone goal for the Pioneers 4:52 into the game.

LAST SMITH WIN
A goal by Julia Hamilton (Williamstown, Mass./Deerfield Academy) in the 46th minute was all Smith needed as it held on to defeat MIT, 1-0, on October 15, 2016. Smith goalkeeper Cameo Tietje (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) made eight saves in the shutout.

SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS

  • Fifth-seeded MIT (11-7) escaped with a 2-1 win over No. 13 Babson on Thursday afternoon in a NEWMAC Tournament semifinal.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Grace Moore delivered a 19-save performance and Megan Flynn and Devon Goetz added first-half goals as the Engineers advanced to their third consecutive title game.
  • Goetz leads the MIT offense with 15 goals and seven assists for 37 points.
  • Moore owns a 2.07 goals against average and a .763 save percentage.
  • The Engineers are 7-3 in road games in 2018.


SCOUTING THE PIONEERS

  • Third-seeded Smith (13-7) advanced to the NEWMAC Tournament Championship game with their 2-1 double overtime win over second-seeded Springfield (12-6) Thursday evening.
  • Junior Neva Richardson (Rehoboth Beach, Del./St. Andrew's School) scored the equalizer in the 65th minute and senior Emily Biggs (Northampton, Mass./Northampton) sealed the win as the Pioneers will play in the NEWMAC title game for the first time since the 1998 season.
  • Junior Anna Ballou (Deerfield, Mass./Deerfield Academy) ranks fourth in the NEWMAC with seven assists and senior Beatrice Chaduoin has recorded five defensive saves this season.
  • Junior Sammie Pavlov (Royersford, Pa./Westtown School) leads the Pioneer offense with 10 goals and four assists.
  • Cornell owns a 1.65 goals against average and .683 save percentage to go along with three shutouts in 20 starts.
  • Smith is 8-3 in home games this season.
