Tennis Concludes 2018 Season with 9-0 Loss to Mount Holyoke

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College tennis team concluded the 2018 season with a 9-0 loss to Mount Holyoke in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action Tuesday evening. Prior to the match, the Pioneers honored their three seniors: Tess Ostoyich, Sam Peikes, and Lisa Yamada.

Smith ends the year with a 1-15 overall record and 0-8 mark in conference play. Mount Holyoke improves to 8-10 on the year and 5-3 in NEWMAC action and will host fifth-seeded Wheaton College Saturday afternoon in the first round of the championship.

Doubles action saw the team of Samantha Peikes and June Lee shoulder an 8-2 loss to Ching-Ching Huang and Ishita Tibrewal. The Lyons gained a 2-0 lead as Catherine Peabody and Anya Gerasimova topped Joanna Kim and Emma Essenmacher, 8-2. Mount Holyoke complete the sweep as Madison Rosen and Joy Maran bested Allison Ahern and Kara Van Allen, 8-5.

The Lyons defeated the Pioneers in all the singles matches in straight sets.
