Swimming and Diving Picks Up 165-117 Win Over Westfield State

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College swimming and diving team picked up a 165-117 win over Westfield State Saturday afternoon at Dalton Pool. The Pioneers were led by first-year Kristin Cirulli (Edgewood, Ky./Villa Madonna Academy) and junior Paula Torre-Nieto (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Panther Creek) as both were victorious in three events. 

SWIMMING HIGHLIGHTS
  • Cirulli placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.54), 100-yard butterfly (1:04.21) and as the third leg of the 400-yard medley relay (4:22.63).
  • Torre-Nieto claimed victory in the 50-yard freestyle (25:45), 100-yard freestyle (57:01) and the 50-yard butterfly (28:39).
  • First-year Haley December Brown (Kewadin, Mich./Lake Highland Prepatory School) earned wins in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:44.81) and 500-yard freestyle (5:42.76).
  • In the final event of the meet, Smith's quad of Torre-Nieto, Virginia Griswold (Clarkesville, Ga./Tallulah Falls), Annie Wilson (Boston, Mass./Boston Latin School) and Elisabeth Nesmith (Danville, Ky./Danville) clocked in the top time in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:47.36).

DIVING HIGHLIGHTS
  • Senior Shoshana Werblow (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) earned her best mark of the season on the 1-meter, taking first with 252.80 points. 
  • Sophomore Hannah Chang (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck South) recorded a second place total of 183.50 points.
  • On the 3-meter, Werblow registered the highest point total with 230.50.
