NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College tennis team fell to Wheaton College, 8-1, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Lyons improve to 6-9 overall and 4-4 in the NEWMAC, while the Pioneers dip to 1-11 on the year and 1-6 in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wheaton went up 3-0 after sweeping doubles.
- The Pioneers were unable to overcome the well executed play from the visitors and dropped No. 1 through No. 5 singles.
- Smith's lone win of the afternoon came at the No. 6 position. Betsy Hiller won the first set 6-0 and went up 5-2 in the second. Her opponent, Harley Swainston stormed back forcing a second set tiebreak where Hillier ultimately won 7-5.

Smith travels to Mount Holyoke on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. for the final match of the 2019 season.
