NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Smith College senior Anna Ballou (Deerfield, Mass./Deerfield Academy) scored her first goal of the season, but it was Cortland who came from behind to defeat the Pioneers, 2-1, in the championship game of the Caryl Newhof Classic, Saturday. Senior Vivian Nelson (Edmonton, Canada/Strathcona) and junior Abby Morton (Saline, Mich./Saline) were named to the All-Tournament Team.

HOW IT HAPPENED

SMI 1 COR 2 | 26:20 - Allie Bianchi tallied the game-winner for her second goal of the season

  • Smith owned a 14-11 advantage in shots on goal and 12-6 edge in penalty corners
  • The Pioneers had their best opportunity to tie the game in the third quarter but Cortland's goalkeeper came up big and made multiple saves while being peppered by the Smith offense
