Soccer Battles to 1-1 Draw With RPI

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College soccer team delivered a gritty 1-1 tie against RPI Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 1' - The Engineers wasted little time as Meagan Lettko took a corner that ricocheted off the far post into the goal
  • 65'- Smith would even things up in the second half when Maggie Boyle (Milford, Mass./Milford) converted a free kick from 40 yards out to the right corner of the net

GAME NOTES
  • Smith moves to 1-1-1 in the all-time series
  • RPI outshot the Pioneers 37-11 and the Engineers held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks
  • Sophomore Naomi Falkenberg (Sutton, Mass./Sutton) made two saves in the opening 45 minutes of play before first-year Noemi Howland (South Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena) came off the bench for the second half and overtime sessions to make 10 stops and keep RPI off the board
  • In the final minute of the second overtime, the Engineers had a chance to win it off a drilled shot from Grace Heine but Howland tipped it overthe crossbar for a stellar save. RPI was unable to capitalize on the ensuing corner as the game ended in a 1-1 draw
