CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Three second half goals lifted the No. 11 nationally-ranked MIT women's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Smith College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play today in Cambridge. The Engineers posted its seventh consecutive clean sheet breaking the longest shutout streak in program history.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 71' - Sophomore Karenna Groff registered her fifth goal of the season after she finished a short cross from senior Sophie Struckman at the top of the box.
  • 78' - First-year Stephanie Howe notched her first goal of the season and of her collegiate career as she rocketed the ball from 30 yards out into the top right corner of the net.
  • 87' - Senior Emily Berzolla tallied her seventh goal of the season which tied her career-high single season mark after she blasted a corner kick from 25 yards out into the back of the net.

GAME NOTES
  • Naomi Falkenberg (Sutton, Mass./Sutton) and Noemi Howland (South Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena) (2-3-1) split time evenly for the Pioneers and combined for 10 saves the in the loss.
  • MIT outshot Smith 26-2 and held an 11-3 advantage in corner kicks
  • The Engineers improve to 15-19-1 all-time against Smith and has won the last four meetings.
