Soccer Stifles Mount Holyoke, 6-0

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College soccer team secured a 6-0 win over visiting Mount Holyoke College in Wednesday afternoon New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.

The Pioneers improve to 5-5-4 (2-3-2 NEWMAC), while dropping the Lyons to 2-9 (0-7 NEWMAC).

SCORING SUMMARY
  • 31:50 - Smith got on the board off the foot of Avery Kaplan (Chicago, Ill./Jones College Prep) who used her speed to beat the Mount Holyoke defense and keeper to put the Pioneers up 1-0
  • 44:00 - Emma Sadle's (Portland, Ore./Catlin Gabel) header off a free kick from Maggie Boyle (Milford, Mass./Milford) doubled Smith's lead
  • 60:19 - Dionne used her fancy footwork to find enough open space and ripped a shot 30 yards out that soared over the keeper;s outreached arms
  • 73:47 - Kaplan notched her second goal of the game on a shot that arched to the right side of the goal
  • 75:27 - Kaplan dribbled down the left side and found Natalie Dionne (Brooklyn, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) who chipped a shot to the top right corner
  • 89:31 - Off a free kick near the left sideline, Madelyn Boyle (Milford, Mass./Milford) connected with Kelsey Cahill (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) for the final goal of the game

  • Smith held a 30-3 edge in total shots and 5-0 corner kick advantage
  • Senior goalkeeper Naomi Falkenberg (Sutton, Mass./Sutton) made two saves in 45 minutes of action while Alexandra Osuna (San Diego, Calif./San Diego) played 45 minutes of shutout action
  • The Pioneers improve to 34-13-4 all-time against Mount Holyoke and have won five straight against the Lyons
