HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Smith offense began to find their footing in the second quarter, taking 2 shots and getting a corner, but the Beavers kept their edge on the Pioneers. Recent NEWMAC Offensive Player of the Week Lauren Curly scored off a breakaway to put Babson up 3-0.
  • Smith 0, Babson 4 - (35:48) After a long stand in Smith's defensive third, Babson's Isabelle Fournier tipped the balled into the net.

  • Smith 0, Babson 5 - (51:43) A penalty corner inserted by Babson's Fournier resulted in a goal a fifth goal for the Beavers scored by Brianne McGrath.
  • Smith 1, Babson 5 - (52:06) The Pioneers once again showed their grit by getting in the final word. Victoria Mellow (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) had a beautifully placed lift from right inside the top of the circle to put the Pioneers on the board. Mellow's goal sparked the Pioneers team who took two shots and obtained two corners in the minutes immediately following the scoring play.
