WELLESLEY, Mass. - Alex Linart scored in the 40th minute to lead third-seeded Wellesley College to a 2-1 victory over sixth-seeded Smith College in the quarterfinals of the 2021 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Field Hockey Championship Tuesday evening.
Wellesley (10-6 overall) advances to face the No. 2 seed MIT (12-4) in the NEWMAC semifinals on Thursday, November 5. Smith finishes the season with a 5-13 overall record.

- 12:55 - SMI 1 WEL 1After a penalty corner late in the first period, Rose Weseley found an open Cass Novello who finished with a backhand shot and tied the game at 1-1. mith held on to the lead.
- 40:56 - SMI 1 WEL 2 - Alex Lenart took a pass by Maddie Bettencourt and fired home a goal. It would prove to be her fourth game winning goal of the season after putting Wellelsey ahead 2-1.

- Channy Cornell (Arlington, Tex./The Oakridge School) finished the game with nine saves, while her counterpart Kyra Deehr-Lewis made 13 stops
- Late in the first quarter, the Blue would earn a penalty stroke taken by Bettencourt. She fired a low shot that was saved by keeper Cornell and Smith held on to lead
- With time running out in the fourth quarter, Smith maintained pressure but Deehr-Lewis turned away shot after shot
- Both teams recorded 18 shots, while the Pioneers held a 10-9 advantage in penalty corners
- Wellesley improves to 36-25 all-time against Smith
