WELLESLEY, Mass. - Alex Linart scored in the 40th minute to lead third-seeded Wellesley College to a 2-1 victory over sixth-seeded Smith College in the quarterfinals of the 2021 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Field Hockey Championship Tuesday evening.
Wellesley (10-6 overall) advances to face the No. 2 seed MIT (12-4) in the NEWMAC semifinals on Thursday, November 5. Smith finishes the season with a 5-13 overall record.

- Channy Cornell (Arlington, Tex./The Oakridge School) finished the game with nine saves, while her counterpart Kyra Deehr-Lewis made 13 stops
- Late in the first quarter, the Blue would earn a penalty stroke taken by Bettencourt. She fired a low shot that was saved by keeper Cornell and Smith held on to lead
- With time running out in the fourth quarter, Smith maintained pressure but Deehr-Lewis turned away shot after shot
- Both teams recorded 18 shots, while the Pioneers held a 10-9 advantage in penalty corners
- Wellesley improves to 36-25 all-time against Smith
