Kolmodin Sets School Record in 200 Free at WPI Multi-Meet

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Smith College swimming and diving team competed in a multi-meet against four other teams on Friday on the campus of WPI. The Pioneers won five individual races and both diving events, while first-year Caroline Kolmodin (Mountainside, NJ/Academy for Allied Health Sciences Union County) set a new school record in the 200 free. Smith won the head-to-head competition against Simmons (167-115) and fell to Babson (159-126), Brandeis (149-130) and WPI (173-120).

Swimming Highlights
  • Kolmodin's winning time of 1:55.95 in the 200 free broke Eliza Cummings' time of 1:56.07 set in 2017. The first year also placed first in the 200 back (2:12.69) and the 200 fly (59.09).
  • In the 1000 free, first-year Julia Petrino (Fort Collins, CO/Poudre Global Academy) clocked in a first place time of 11:18.19 and touched the wall second in the 500 free (5:32.13).
  • Julie Xiong (Shanghai, China/Wilbraham and Monson Academy) delivered a winning time in the 200 fly (2:12.40) and was second in the 200 breaststroke (2:34.28)

Diving Highlights
  • Senior Hannah Chang (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck South) posted season-best scores of 178.90 on the 1-meter and 164.75 on the 3-meter.
  • Elsa Bieger (Minneapolis, MN/Southwest) placed fifth on the 1-meter with a mark of 105.70.
