CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - In the NEWMAC opener for both squads, the Smith College field hockey team fell to No. MIT by a score of 8-1 Saturday afternoon. It was the fourth ranked opponent for the Pioneers this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Engineers jumped on the board just 7:12 into the game as Radler put home a crossing pass from junior Paige Forester for the 1-0 advantage. Forester found the net herself just over three minutes later as the picked off a pass and blasted in a shot from the top of the circle for her sixth goal of the season.

- Senior Laura Chen posted her second goal of the season as she scored off a penalty corner, followed by senior Emily Genevriere closing out the first quarter with her first goal of the year. Radler closed the first half scoring with 1:16 remaining in the second quarter and sent MIT into the break up 5-0.

- Smith got on the board just 2:31 into the third quarter asÂ
Karlie Guimond (Hatfield, Mass./Smith Academy)Â scored off a penalty corner after a pass fromÂ
Laura Dreher (Durham, N.H./Durham)Â to make it a 5-1 margin.

- Forester notched an unassisted tally late in the third, followed by the second goal of the game by Chen and the completion of Radler's hat trick to account for the 8-1 final.
