Swimming & Diving Cruises Past Simmons in Season Opener

NORTHAMPTON - The Smith College swimming & diving team won 12 events in a 188-88 victory over Simmons University Saturday afternoon in the seaosn opening meet. 

Swimming Highlights
  • In the 200 medley relay to start the meet, Smith's best time came in 1:56.03 following the efforts of Grace Magee, Abby McIlraith, Julie Xiong and Caroline Kolmodin to finish first
  • In the 200 free, Kolmodin posted a first place time of 2:02.50 and would later go onto finish second in the 50 free and 100 free
  • Julie Xiong cruised to victories in the 200 fly (2:14.17) and 200 breast (2:40.45)
  • Grace Magee grabbed a pair of wins in the 100 back (1:03.9) and 200 back (2:15.90)
  • Julia Petrino recorded the winning time in the 500 free in 5:47.78

Diving Highlights
  • Katherine Welsh swept both diving events, recording a score of 243.65 on the 1-meter and 246.75 on the 3-meter
  • Elsa Bieger placed second on the 1-meter in 130.10, while Leah Cockran was second on the 3-meter with a mark of 112.75

Up Next
The Pioneers will travel to WPI for a quad meet against the host Engineers, Brandeis, Babson and Coast Guard.
