Swimming and Diving Brings Strong Performances to WPI Multi Meet

WORCESTER, MASS. - The Smith College swimming and diving team competed in a multi-meet against four other teams on Friday on the campus of WPI. The Pioneers collected seven top-three individual finishes including Grace Magee (Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) who claimed the victory in the 1000 free in 11:10.58 and Katherine Welsh (St. Paul, Minn./Saint Paul Academy) who took the overall win in the three-meter dive with a score of 237.55. In the head-to-head competition Smith fell to WPI (186-109), Brandeis (178-107), Coast Guard (197-91), and Babson (161-120). 

Swimming Highlights
  • Grace Magee (Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) recorded the winning time in the 1000 free in 11:10.58 and would later go onto finish second in the 200 back and third in the 400 IM
  • Julie Xiong (Shanghai, China/Wilbraham and Monson Academy) placed second overall in the 200 butterfly posting a time of 2:14.20
  • Caroline Kolmodin (Mountainside, N.J./Academy for Allied Health Sciences Union County) was the top performer for the Pioneers in the 500 free placing third overall with a time of 5:25.14
Diving Highlights
  • Katherine Welsh (St. Paul, Minn./Saint Paul Academy) cruised to the overall victory in the three-meter board posting a score of 237.55 and placed second in the one-meter dive with a score of 188.55
