BOSTON - Sophomore
Riley McKenna (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) scored her first career goal as visiting Smith College and UMass Boston played to a 1-1 tie as the two teams opened the 2022 campaign Thursday afternoon at Monan Soccer Field.
"As ties go, today's draw at UMass Boston had many positives," said head coach
Kathy Brawn. "Riley's goal from Seychelle's throw in was a fantastic finish. Noemi had a solid affternoon in goal and came up large on several occasions. In between, our team carried out the game plan with tenacity and commitment. The Beacon's goal was well earned and we came away from the match feeling like, overall, we're moving in the right direction. We look forward to getting back at it this Saturday when we travel to Bard.Â

How it Happened
After a quiet first half by both teams, the Beacons would have multiple opportunities which were turned away by Smith goalkeeper
Noemi Howland (South Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena).Â
Late in the second half, the Pioneers' throw-in was misplayed by the Beacon defense as the ball dropped in for McKenna, who one-timed it to the far post.Â
Just minutes later, Sullivan found her teammate wide open right inside the goal box.
