Swimming & Diving Falls at Wellesley

WELLESLEY, MASS. - The Smith College swimming & diving team collected nine top-five finishes in a competitive meet against New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponents Wellesley and Springfield on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers fell to host Wellesley 191-78 before finishing after Springfield 230-60.

Highlights

  • Katherine Welsh (St. Paul, Minn./Saint Paul Academy) claimed the overall victory in the one-meter dive registering a score of 234.15 before winning the three-meter board with a score of 237.85
  • Grace Magee (Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) posted a runner-up finish in the 1000 freestyle in a time of 11:19.02
  • Julia Petrino (Fort Collins, Colo./Poudre Global Academy) finished fifth overall in the 100 back delivering a time of 1:05.36 before taking fourth in the 200 back (2:21.04)
  • In the 200 butterfly, Abby Dease (Hillsboro, N.C./Orange) placed third recording a time of 2:35.24
  • Representing Smith in the 50 free, Eden Ball (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) took fifth overall with a time of 27.14
  • Cady Dorrian (Jacksonville, Fla./Douglas Anderson School of the Arts) posted a time of 59.82 in the 100 free which was good for fifth place
  • In the 100 butterfly, Julie Xiong (Shanghai, China/Wilbraham and Monson Academy) finished fourth notching a time of 1:04.84
