NORTHAMPTON, MASS. - The Smith College swimming & diving team collected seven individual victories in a 167-127 loss against New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponent Mount Holyoke College in their final home meet of the regular season, while honoring their two seniors Eleanor Trimm (Cranston, R.I./Cranston East) and Julie Xiong (Shanghai, China/Wilbraham and Monson Academy).
Julie Xiong (Shanghai, China/Wilbraham and Monson Academy) produced first-place finishes in two out of the three individual events she competed in. Xiong first claimed victory in the 200 fly, clocking in a time of 2:07.50, finishing over 14 seconds faster than second place. Later in the 100 fly, Xiong took home the win posting a time of 59.84. In the 200 breaststroke Xiong placed second, finishing in 2:37.14.
Eleanor Trimm (Cranston, R.I./Cranston East) had strong performances in her three individual events to conclude the regular season. In the 100 IM, Trimm recorded a personal best of 1:20.10 which was good for fifth place. Trimm delivered her second-fastest performance in the 200 fly of 2:48.15 finishing sixth while also coming within one second of her personal record in the 200 back, posting a time of 2:51.65.
Highlights
- Lyla Metcalf (South Portland, Maine/South Portland) registered the first win of the day in the 1000 yard, notching a time of 11:59.48 which was over seven seconds faster than second place
- In the 100 back, Julia Petrino (Fort Collins, Colo./Poudre Global Academy) claimed the win posting a time of 1:05.78
- Grace Magee (Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) delivered a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke recording a time of 1:12.85 while also taking home the victory in the 200 back with a time of 2:16.03
- Julia Petrino (Fort Collins, Colo./Poudre Global Academy) won the 500 free clocking in a time of 5:42.16
- The 200 medley relay team of Magee, Xiong, Eden Ball (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) and Petrino placed second delivering a time of 1:59.84
- In the 200 free relay, the team of Magee, Petrino, Cady Dorrian (Jacksonville, Fla./Douglas Anderson School of the Arts) and Ball finished second with a time of 1:49.88
