Annie Wimsatt (Westerville, OH/Columbus Academy) and
Laura Dreher (Durham, NH/Durham) each scored twice as Smith field hockey earned a convincing 4-0 win over Keene State College Wednesday evening. The Pioneers improve to 4-5 on the year, while the Owls drop to 7-3 overall.
Game Highlights
- Smith opened the scoring at the 6:44 mark of the first quarter. During its second corner of the frame, Coco Cornell (Arlington, TX/The Oakridge School) shot the ball toward the net and was deflected in by Dreher
- The Pioneers controlled the action in the quarter and doubled its lead when Wimsatt slipped past a defender and ripped a shot into bottom left corner with 11:07 on the clock
- Wimsatt added her second goal of the game on a shot from the top of the circle to make it 3-0 just before the half
- Dreher put the game out of reach when she beat a defender, did a spin move and hammered home a shot to beat the goalkeeper with 9:11 left in the game
Inside the Numbers
- Abby Halpin (Pine Bush, NY/Kent School) finished with five saves and recorded her second career shutout
- Clara Gorman stopped eight shots for the Owls
- Smith ended the night with advantages in shots (18-7), shots on goal (13-6), and penalty corners (10-5)
