Wang, Welsh Shine in Season Opener

WORCESTER - The Smith College swimming and diving team got seven top-five finishes in a series of dual meets at WPI against the host Engineers, Babson, Coast Guard and Smith.

Top Performances
  • First year Jessie Wang (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) paced Smith with two wins on the evening. They claimed the top time in the 200 fly (2:12.47) and took the 200 back in 2:11.68
  • Diver Katherine Welsh (St. Paul, MN/Saint Paul Academy) picked up two wins in both diving events. On the 1-meter, she scored 268.45 points and received her first NCAA Regional cut of the year and racked up 248.5 points on the 3-meter.
  • Grace Magee (Portland, OR/Oregon Episcopal) was runner-up in the 1000-free with a time of 11:24.17, while Caroline Kolmodin (Mountainside, NJ/Academy for Allied Health Sciences Union County) posted a fifth place time of 2:02.84 in the 200 free
  • To wrap of up the evening, the 400 freestyle team of Jessie Wang (Princeton, NJ/Princeton), Maddie Milla (Nyack, NY/Nyack), Madeleine Lucas (Salem, MA/Salem) and Kolmoding finished fourth overall in the 400-yard free in 3:50.91
