Northampton, MA - The Smith College tennis team lost a tough battle to #31 Nationally Ranked Vassar College on Friday afternoon. The Pioneers won one match in doubles play and had two singles wins.
Battles in the Doubles
Clara Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) and Lili Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) led the way for Smith in doubles as they beat their opponent by the score of 6-3. Ayla Hauser (Knoxville, TN/Bearden) and Marielle Sauber (The Woodlands, TX/The John Cooper School) lost a tough battle at the No.1 doubles, losing by a close score of 7-5.
Singles Gain Experience
Smith tried to find some momentum in the singles play, however, Vassar overpowered them. Ayla Hauser (Knoxville, TN/Bearden) delivered a dominant performance at No. 1 singles, bouncing back from a loss in doubles play. On the No.5 singles court, Sabrina Wang (Beijing, China/Princeton) battled it out with the Vassar athlete with Wang pulling out victorious with a finals core of 10-6. Clara Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) and Lili Goshgarian (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) tried to carry their doubles momentum into singles play but were outmatched by Vassar.

With this victory, Smith continues to build momentum as they prepare for their next challenge. The Pioneers will return to action on March 6th as they travel down to Hartford to take on the Trinity College Bantams.
