Box Score NORTHAMPTON - The Smith College field hockey team battled to a thrilling 3-2 win over Keene State College on Tuesday evening. The win improves the Bears record to 5-3 on the year, while the Owls drop to 7-2 this season. 

First Half Highlights

• The first period began with the Bears applying early pressure on the Owls' defense. Halie Yung (San Jose, CA/Lynbrook) and Callahan Day (Shady Side, MD/Elizabeth Seton) each tested Keene State's goalkeeper, Clara Gorman, with shots, but Gorman managed to keep them out of the net. The Bears effectively utilized penalty corners, with Day taking two during the quarter, but they were unable to convert these opportunities into goals.
• On the defensive end, Smith's goalkeeper, Iseul Park (Ann Arbor, MI/), stood firm against the Owls' attempts, making crucial saves against shots from Grace Seabury and Meghan Daileanes. The quarter concluded with a 0-0 score, as both teams' defenses held strong.
• The second quarter began with the Bears generating offensive pressure, as Day and Yung each took multiple shots on goal. Yung broke through at 21:31 with her first goal of the season, leveling the score at 1-1. Despite this momentum, the Owls answered back when Daileanes scored at 26:57, giving them a 2-1 lead. The quarter concluded with the Bears trailing by one goal as the clock ran out, setting the stage for a competitive continuation.

Second Half Highlights

• The third quarter started with the Owls applying pressure through multiple penalty corners and shots, but the Bears' defense, led by Park, held firm with key saves. The Bears responded with an offensive push, highlighted by Day's persistent efforts, including a shot saved by the opposition's goalkeeper, Gorman.
• Midway through the period, Day's efforts paid off, as she scored her eighth goal of the season at the 43:20 mark, leveling the score at 2-2. The Bears continued to challenge the Owls' defense with several attempts, but the quarter concluded with the score tied, maintaining the tension for the final period.
• Annika Peterson (Forest Hill, MD/North Harford) capitalized on a penalty stroke at 49:30, scoring her second goal of the season to put the Bears ahead 3-2. Earlier in the fourth quarter, the Bears' offensive pressure was evident as Grace Irizarry (Pennington, NJ/The Pennington School) and Day both took shots, with Day's attempt saved by Gorman.
• Smith maintained their lead through the remainder of the quarter, with another shot by Day being saved, ensuring a 3-2 victory as the final whistle blew.
